McIlroy’s father wins big after betting on Rory to win The Open before age of 26
Rory McIlroy’s win at Hoylake not only won himself the winner’s cheque at The Open overnight but his Dad had a nice pay-day as well.
Gerry McIlroy and a few of his friends have won £200,000 after a successfully betting on his son, Rory McIlroy to win The Open by the age of 26.
The best was placed 10 years ago, when McIlroy was just 16-years-old and it is understood that McIlroy snr and his friends placed £400 at 500/1 with a bookie on Rory to win The Open Championship before his 26th birthday.
Rory could’ve given them the £200,000 himself though after not only claiming the £975,000 cheque for his victory at Royal Liverpool. He has already amassed over US$29million in career prize money since turning professional in 2007.
