Luke Donald runs away from charging baboon: video

The European Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge was held at the Gray Player Country Club on the weekend in South Africa. And in addition to the usual golf course hazards, there was some local wildlife to negotiate.

England’s Danny Willett ending up winning the tournament, four shots ahead of a resurgent Ross Fisher and six ahead of former world number one Luke Donald.

Donald had to quickly clear the way for a charging baboon during his second round at Sun City, the ABC website reported:

As he prepared to hit an iron, a baboon stormed the fairway and headed directly for him.

“Suddenly this thing’s galloping towards me and I jump out of the way,” he said.

Donald moved away from the ball and allowed the animal to pass safely before composing himself to hit a good shot onto the green, sinking his putt for birdie.

“It gave me a little bit of a fright as he just strolled right by me. He didn’t really pay any attention to me in the end” said Donald.
