Ko becomes youngest winner of a golf tournament

New Zealander Lydia Ko today made history by becoming the youngest ever winner of a professional golf tournament.

History has today been made at the Samsung/Bing Lee Women’s NSW Open. Amateur golfer Lydia Ko has become the youngest ever winner of a recognised professional golf tournament by winning at only 14 years of age.

Amy Yang was the previous record holder at 16 years of age, set at the 2006 ANZ Ladies Masters.
Ko went into the final round with a four shot lead but memories of a traumatic end to the tournament would have loomed large. Ko three putted the final hole last year to squander victory but she made no such mistake this year.

Her second round included a 7-under par 29 for the opening nine holes which saw Ko with a four shot buffer going into the final round at Oatlands Golf Club in Sydney.

She was threatened mid-way through her final round when Kristie Wright drew within two shots but she held her nerve to eventually take the title by a comfortable four shots.
