Keegan Bradley wins USPGA. Who is Keegan Bradley?
It took four rounds and three extra holes for Keegan Bradley to win the US PGA championship at his first appearance in a major.
After a dramatic final four holes which had proved dramatic all week long, Keegan Bradley and Jason Dufner had tied for the lead at 8-under par and were forced into a three-hole playoff. Bradley birdied the first playoff hole just moments after Dufner had almost holed his shot from the fairway. An eventual bogey, followed by another on the next hole by Dufner all but assured Bradley his victory.
Dufner looked to have the last major championship of the year sewn up as he arrived the notoriously difficult par-3 15th. A four shot lead soon evaporated as he found the water on the right. This started a run of three bogey’s as his putter ran cold.
Bradley also found trouble at the 15th hole. He thinned a tough chip shot from the side of the green into the water before eventually making a triple-bogey. His momentum going into the playoff was strong however as he rebounded after the triple, to card two birdies in the final three holes.
But who is Keegan Bradley?
This was Bradley’s very first appearance at a major championship and prior to this event he was ranked 108th in the world. If you’ve kept up-to-date with the PGA Tour this year you will know his golf has been impressive.
He grabbed his PGA Tour card courtesy of a good year on the Nationwide Tour in 2010. In his rookie year on the PGA Tour Bradley has made 15 of his 23 cuts, had three top-10 finishes and won the Byron Nelson Championship in May this year. Also in a playoff.
His golf at last week’s WGC event was great apart from his final six holes. He finished in a tie for 15th but played holes 12 – 18 in 6-over par, finishing 6-under overall.
He’s a Red Sox fan too, so I’m assuming he’s one of the good guys.
