Jason Day collapses with dizziness at US Open

Suffering from vertigo, Jason Day has collapsed on his final hole of the second round at Chambers Bay.

Jason Day has fallen over due to dizziness on the ninth hole at Chambers Bay in his second round of the 2015 US Open.

Day had just hit his tee shot into the bunker at the par-3 ninth hole and was walking towards the green when he collapsed next to his caddy. Initially it was thought he had slipped in the fescue rough but TV footage showed Day clearly falling on the fairway on the approach to the green (see video below)

The tee shot to the ninth hole is a dramatic 100 feet above the green and the change in elevation may have contributed to Day’s vertigo that he has been suffering from over the past several weeks.

Day managed to pick himself up with the aid of his caddy and medical staff. With his hands shaking, Day somehow managed to play the bunker shot and two-putted for bogey to sit at 2-under for the tournament. There is no word on whether Day will be healthy enough to play tomorrow.

Day has been suffering from dizzy spells ever since the WGC event at Firestone last year where he was forced to withdraw in the final round.

After a series of tests, Day looked to have put the vertigo behind him leading into the 2015 US Open. Playing partner Jordan Spieth, who shot 3-under today told FoxSports’ Holly Sonders that he didn’t notice anything from Day until he collapsed on their final hole of the day.

“I turned around and he was laying down there. All I heard was that it was dizziness.

“I think coming into the week he was a little under the weather. For him to go finish the round, he could barely walk when he got up, so it was pretty strong of him.”
