It’s British Open week!

Welcome to The Open Championship week!
Yes, I know. We’re supposed to call it The Open Championship, but in Australia it’s always been known as The British Open. We have our own open championship too of course. I’ll be see-sawing between the two all week. Just so you know.
The Open Championship is the oldest of the four major championships and it begins on Thursday from Royal Lytham and St.Annes Golf Club. FoxSports 3 will be live broadcasting all four days starting on Thursday evening at 6pm.
Aussie Golfer will be aiming to bring you as much information as possible, not just here on the blog, but also on Twitter and through the Aussie Golfer Facebook page. We’re looking forward to plenty of golf chat this week.
Check out the full Australian TV schedule for the 2012 Open Championship.

The course has hosted the Open Championship on 10 previous occasions with David Duval winning the most recent championship there in 2001. The other winners at Royal Lytham were Tom Lehman (1996), Seve Ballesteros (1988, 1979), Gary Player (1974), Tony Jacklin (1969), Bob Charles (1963), Peter Thomson (1958), Bobby Locke (1952) and Bobby Jones (1926).
Twelve Australians will be in the field this week, with the most notable absentee being Jason Day who chose to skip The Open after his wife gave birth to their first child last week.
