Is Rory’s backyard better than Tiger’s backyard?

After Rory McIlroy’s record breaking US Open victory, there have been plenty of comparisons to a young Tiger Woods, but few have compared their respective backyards.

A BBC documentary team had six months access to Rory McIlroy, which spanned his heartbreaking demise at the US Masters to his stunning victory at the US Open. During the program, McIlroy gives a short tour of his practice facility (video) and it compares pretty well to the photos of Tiger Woods’ backyard.

McIlroy’s garden features multiple greens, a road hole bunker (with sand from Royal Portrush), American styled bunkers, and extra long grass for that US Open feel. My backyard has that US Open feel all the time.

It is easy to like Rory. I love his humble demeanour and the casual chat to one of his course staff about the weather isn’t something I can imagine Tiger doing. Maybe I’m wrong.

In short, it is golfing heaven and it would be interesting to see if Tiger comes across as amiable if he took us on a similar tour. But if we’re going to pick a winner here, I’m giving it to Rory.

But if we’re going to compare the weather…that’s a different story.
