Heartbreaking finish for Steve Allen

Like all golf fans, Aussie Golfer hates hearing stories like this of which there are plenty each year but it makes things even harder to take when it involves an Australian golfer.

Beginning last weekend’s PGA Tour tournament, former Australian Open champ, Steve Allan sat in 139th place on the money list needing to get into the top 125 to guarantee his US Tour card for next season. Arriving at the 17th tee in the final round he was placed 3rd but a bogey, double-bogey finish saw him drop to a tie for 8th and in 131st position on the money list.

The PGA Tour still has two more tournaments to play this year so Allen has a good chance to move up the rankings. Aussie Golfer will keep a close eye on how he fares over the coming weeks.

Matthew Goggin finished 2nd, one shot out of the playoff to continue his stellar year on the tour. He’s now 38th on the PGA Tour money list.

Over the coming weeks I’ll recap how the Aussies fared in the major golf tours starting with the LPGA Tour next week.
