Handicapping formula changes to “best 8 of 20” rounds
Golf Australia has announced a changes to the way your handicap will be calculated, starting in September 2011.
The criticism of the current Australian golf handicapping system has been heard by Golf Australia and they are making changes. As of September 21 this year, the current “Best 10 of 20” rolling method of calculating handicaps will be changed to a “Best 8 of 20” formula.
In addition, there are a few extra tweaks being added to: “please the Australian golf community and we will soon start to see a handicap system more closely aligned to the way we play our golf”.
The changes:
1. Alter ‘Best 10 of 20’ to ‘Best 8 of 20’.
2. Change the Bonus for Excellence multiplier from 0.96 to 0.93.
3. Introduce an Anchor which will prevent a player’s handicap from increasing any more than 4 strokes beyond their best exact handicap from the previous 12-month rolling period.
4. Golf Link will cap the score that goes into a player’s handicap record at no more than the following amount over the course rating: – 50-women, – 40-men
THIS SYSTEM WILL GIVE ALL THE ADVANTAGES TO LOWER HANDICAPS, FOR EXAMPLE TO HAVE A HANDICAP OF 12 YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE 8 CARDS PLAYING AROUND A 15 MARK NOT A TRUE INDICATOR FOR HANDICAPS
That’s right ANON. The changes level the playing field a little bringing the lower handicaps back into the picture when it comes to winning competitions. Something they’ve had a hard time doing since the previous handicap change.
