Golf, with two flags on each green
There is a new form of golf in town called Powerplay Golf. The concept adds another flag to each green that rewards golfers with double points.
Powerplay Golf has been around for a while now with several golf courses in Australia getting on board. But the concept is seriously taking off with news of several professionals getting on board for a three tournament schedule broadcast live on television.
The Powerplay: Ignition series of tournaments will be televised live with the first event kicking off at Celtic Manor in late May. The field will include Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Graeme McDowell, Paula Creamer and Gary Player.
Powerplay Golf is played over nine holes in a modified stableford format, with a black Powerplay flag added to each green. Before you tee off you decide if you will go for the Powerplay flag which will earn you double points. You must do this three times over the first eight holes.
A choice must also be made on the final hole but if a bogey or worse is made to the Powerplay flag, you lose points. See the video below for another take on the rules.
I don’t think anyone is seriously thinking this will rival regular golf in any way, but it sounds like a bit of fun and one to get more people interested in the game. A number of Australian golf courses have been named official Power play venues, including Royal Adelaide, Cypress Lakes and Eagle Ridge Golf Clubs.

My club did it and we are expecting our club pack in the next couple of weeks. We plan to run after work leagues and comps during the week as well as a few corporate events.
I’m really looking forward to it, I played once in a demo day and it was a really exciting format.
