Furyk becomes sixth golfer to post a 59 on PGA Tour: video highlights

Fred Couples may be feeling a little sheepish about leaving 43-year-old Furyk off of his Presidents Cup.

Just a week after Jim Furyk was overlooked for a Presidents Cup captain’s pick he went and carded a second round 59 at the BMW Championship, becoming only the sixth golfer in history to achieve the feat on the US PGA Tour.

Furyk’s achievement was history-making as he became the first golfer to shoot 59 with a bogey on his card.

Furyk played the back nine at Conway Farms Golf Club first shooting an incredible 8-under par 28. The bogey came at the par-4 fifth hole where Furyk three-putted and it looked to put the magic number out of reach, but he responded with a birdie at the seventh and a stunning birdie on the last that sent the crowd and Furyk into raptures.

What’s more remarkable (if this could get any more remarkable) was that Furyk’s round was six shots better than anyone else’s during the second round of the BMW Championship.

In fact, the average score was even par.
