Australia’s most spectacular golf course?

King Island golf is set to take off with what could be Australia’s most spectacular golf course.

My goodness, would you look at that… this is Cape Wickham golf course. Australia’s most anticipated golf course since Barnbougle Lost Farm.

Cape Wickham golf course is situated on King Island, Tasmania – bang in the middle of Bass Strait – and is set to open in 2015. The course has been under construction since June 2013 and has been designed by Mike DeVries with assistance from Planet Golf‘s Darius Oliver.

The unique location obviously lends itself to some spectacular views but the design team have made sure that they optimise the use of the landscape. Sitting alongside Australia’s tallest lighthouse, the course features eight holes that run adjacent to the Bass Strait coastline (the 11th is almost in Bass Strait!), with all holes enjoying spectacular views of the ocean.

The 18th hole is truly going to be a stunning golf hole and set to become perhaps Australia’s most iconic. It will bend around the beach at Victoria Cove and by all reports, the beach will be very much in play. No word on whether raking is required.

It doesn’t take an expert to see that Cape Wickham golf course looks fantastic and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that it could soon be ranked as one of the world’s most spectacular, if not best, golf courses.
