Bubba Watson shoots 81 using just one golf club

Looks like the hybrid is the club of choice for the one club challenge these days.

Bubba Watson turned up to Pelican Hill Golf Club in California last month to play a round of golf with a few mates. He arrived a little light on golf equipment though, taking to the course with just three balls and a 20-degree hybrid golf club.

Watson completed the one club challenge in just 81 strokes!

Golf instructor Tim Mitchell reports at GolfWRX.com the Watson gets a little bored using the regulation 14-clubs:

Bubba told one of our staff members that he sometimes gets bored using 14 clubs, and occasionally wants to challenge his shot making skills by playing a round with only one club.

In impressive fashion, Bubba shot 81 on the Tom Fazio-designed, par-72 championship golf course. That’s a wonderful illustration of what excelling at the game of golf is really about: having multiple skill sets that give any golfer the ability to control the golf ball with whatever club they have in their hands and whatever swing they bring to the course.

Bubba Watson is just the sort of golfer that can conjure up great shots with any golf club in his hands – as we saw at the 2012 Masters.

It would be great to see a few professionals go head-to-head at the one club challenge, just like the BBC used to broadcast  in the 1980’s; like this One Club challenge featuring Seve Ballesteros and Lee Trevino.
