Ballesteros tells Nicklaus about out-of-bounds, after he tees off: video

Feeling a little nostalgic for the old days? This video of Seve and Jack should help.

Long ago, the world’s best would often entertain locals and TV audiences with exhibition matches, often after or before the major tournaments. There were always great viewing and very light-hearted, particularly when Lee Trevino was involved.

This particular match was played at Royal Dublin Golf Club in 1986 between Seve Ballesteros and Jack Nicklaus, just a day after The Open Championship at Turnberry, won by Greg Norman.

This was Nicklaus’ first trip to Ireland and the tee shots at Royal Dublin’s 11th hole are fun to watch for the exchanges between Jack and Seve. Nicklaus asks if he can reach the bunker, to which Seve replies “Yes, two shots”. He then tees off – only afterwards informed by Ballesteros of the out-of-bounds down the right-hand side of the fairway.

Watching these guys you get a good insight into their sense of humour, something you may be forgiven for thinking modern players don’t have much of any more.
