Andrew Dodt comes from six shots back to win 2014 ISUZU QLD Open

Andrew Dodt has come from a long way back to win his second professional golf tournament.

Andrew Dodt has won his second professional event with a surprise come from behind victory at the 2014 ISUZU QLD Open.

The Queenslander started the final round at Brookwater Golf Club six shots off the lead but Dodt fired a superb 5-under 67 final round to usurp the leaders and claim a two shots victory from South Australian Tom Bond.

“I knew I was playing well and I know the course well. I had a good game plan and I stuck to that all week,” said Dodt.

“Patience was the key. I stayed patient all week, hung in there when I needed to, holed the putts when I needed to and came out on top.”

Dodt really wasn’t considered a chance to win going into the final round with all eyes on overnight leader Tom Bond and Matthew Griffin who began the day in second place.

Bond and Griffin were tied for the lead at the 10th hole and it looked like a two-way battle, but it wasn’t until a birdie at the 15th that Dodt was considered a chance to win.

Dodt then made birdies at 17 and 18 which meant Bond needed a birdie on the last hole to force a playoff. But in trying to force the score, Bond could only mamage a bogey.

Prior to this event, Dodt is probably best known for winning the Avantha Masters in 2010 and carding two holes-in-one in the same round of the 2013 Nordea Masters.

“This is my second win as a Professional so I am pretty pumped right now. To win your State Open means a lot,” added Dodt.

Finishing tied third on 3-under 285 were Matthew Griffin (VIC), Cameron Smith (QLD), Anthony Brown (VIC), Jake Higginbottom (NSW) and Michael Long (NZ).
