Adelaide Oval set to transform into a 9-hole golf course

The iconic Adelaide Oval will play host to a sport of a different kind in late October as it transforms into a 9-hole golf course.

Now here is something we weren’t expecting. Golf is coming to Adelaide Oval.

From Monday, 29 October – Sunday, 4 November, the stadium will be transformed into a golfer’s paradise featuring a non-hole stadium golf course, a nine-hole putting course, a Clubhouse putting hole and a longest drive simulator.

From what we can gather, all holes will be 50-90 metres in length with various tees placed at different locations around the venue including level five of the Riverbank Stand, the northern mound at the base of the famous Moreton Bay fig trees and a purpose-built platform in front of the heritage scoreboard.

For $119 per person, you can book a tee time consisting of four people and a caddie (shotgun start), taking two shots per hole to rack up points depending on how close you get to the flag.

And there are loads of great prizes up for grabs including ultimate Adelaide Oval experience, Audi Stadium Club tickets to a football or cricket event of choice, dinner in the Hill of Grace Restaurant, accommodation and more.

Australian Golf Digest has partnered with Adelaide Oval to deliver this stadium golf event for the first time in Australia.

“We are very excited to be the first stadium in Australia to transform into a golf course,” Adelaide Oval SMA General Manager Operations & Commercial Darren Chandler said.

“It’s a concept that will allow keen golfers the chance to enjoy an unforgettable golf experience in Adelaide Oval’s truly unique setting. We’re always looking for innovative and exciting events to bring to Adelaide Oval and this is one we believe will have significant appeal.”

Australian Golf Digest’s Managing Director Nick Cutler said with only 2,520 spots available, people will need to get in quick.

“Adelaide Oval is one of the world’s most picturesque stadiums and we’re thrilled to be partnering with this iconic venue for Australia’s first Stadium Golf event,” he said.

“With a custom-designed nine-hole stadium golf course, nine-hole putting course and a Clubhouse putt, Adelaide Oval Stadium Golf really will provide a fantastic day out. If you’re interested in a golfing experience unlike anything you’ve had before, this event is for you.”

As part of the nine-hole stadium golf course, each player will have two shots per hole. Groups of four will start each session in a shotgun start under stop clock conditions and will be provided a caddie to guide them around the stadium. All clubs and balls will be provided for players. Players will not access the playing surface at any time and scoring will be based on distance from the pin.

Play will commence at 7am daily and continue throughout the day until the final tee off time of 8.30pm. The nine-hole putting course can be played at leisure before or after registered tee-times.

The Audi Stadium Club will be transformed into the Clubhouse and will be the setting for the Clubhouse putt and Longest Drive challenges as well as providing a range of food and beverage packages for those who want to add to their day out.
