Adam Scott takes a four-shot lead at Australian Open: The ‘triple-crown’ awaits

Adam Scott takes a four shot lead into the final round of the 2013 Emirates Australian Open.

If there was any doubt that Australian golf had returned to the glory days of the 80’s and 90’s, when Greg Norman used to command the fairways, they were put to rest today as thousands of people flocked to Royal Sydney to watch the marquee pairing of Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott.

2013 Australian Open Scores Round 3

INDIVIDUAL
-16 Adam Scott
-12 Rory McIlroy
-8 Matt Jones
-8 Richard Green
-8 Max McCardle

And the good news is we can all do it again tomorrow.

A huge roar swept across the eastern suburbs of Sydney as Scott made birdie on this final hole to card a 4-under par 68 and get to 16-under par for the tournament. McIlroy missed his shorter birdie putt on the final hole to give himself some work tomorrow.

Scott admitted his round wasn’t the prettiest missing several fairways but it’s a sign of his maturing game that he can still grind out a great score despite not playing his best.

“Obviously there are some good shots but missed a lot of fairways with the driver today, which is a bit uncharacteristic,” Scott said.

“Not really quite sure yet, I haven’t thought about it, so I haven’t put my finger on exactly what it is, but I’ll have to figure that out before tomorrow.”

The scene is set for a potentially history making final round at the Australian Open as Adam Scott attempts to join Robert Allenby as the only other golfer to have won the Australian ‘triple-crown’ – victories at the Australian PGA Championship, the Australian Masters and the Australian Open.

And with good weather forecast, you can be sure that the crowds will be even bigger at Royal Sydney tomorrow. Perhaps the roars might even reach the western suburbs of Sydney.
