Patrick Reed’s gay slur overshadows opening round of WGC HSBC Champions tournament.
Courtesy of the dramatic hosts on the Golf Channel comes this wrap of the first round of the WGC HSBC Champions. Graeme McDowell had a fantastic opening round to lead by two shots and Adam Scott has positioned himself nicely to be three shots back.
It was all overshadowed by the return of a Patrick Reed controversy who chastised himself using a gay slur after three putting. Just when I was beginning to like him again too.
Reed responded on Twitter to apologise but he’ll expect a fine from the PGA Tour who will deal with this internally.
I'm sorry for using offensive language today in China. My passion to play well got the best of me and my word choice was unacceptable.
