2009 British Open TV coverage

The British Open Championship is on Fox Sports this week with over 60 hours of tournament coverage including Open previews, specials and famous replays.

The Fox Sports TV guide indicates that from 5.30pm Wednesday to 6pm Thursday there will be Open previews and replays.

Thursday and Friday: Live on Fox Sports 2 from 6pm – 4.30am.
Saturday: Live on Fox Sports 2 from 9.30pm – 4.30am.
Sunday: Live on Fox Sports 1 from 7.30pm – 4.30 am.

Interesting that despite Nine having the rights to the tournament the only free-to-air coverage is a few tournament highlights next week. Happy Gilmore is on Channel Ten on Sunday evening though.

  • Well, that’s the advantage of Pay TV. If they have access to key sports events they’ll show more coverage than the FTAs. The only time they don’t is when they’re not able to due to the rights the FTAs have on key events – even if the FTAs don’t show them.

  • That is really the state of play at channel Nine, bumface doing 20 to 1 when will someone shoot Bert, and the crap they are getting from the US is no better. The showed Wimbeldon tennis so why not the golf, Kenny Sutcliffe hang your head in shame. Pass themselves off as The Wide World Of Sports what a crock of shit.

  • I heard Nine jumped on the live tennis bandwagon only at semi-final time? I may be wrong but it sounds very much like something this poor excuse of a TV station may do.

  • It seems that I am justified in avoiding channel 9 recently with the better news coverage from channel 7 and now with the debarcle of not televising any worthwhile coverage of what is arguably the best golf event in the the world “The British Open” it seems as though I wont be changing my viewing habits in the forseeable future.
What a shame we still dont have Kerry Packer backing the network he would be shuddering in his grave I am sure.
